Our Gospel reading, this morning, is in Luke 7 where John's disciples are coming and asking Jesus "are you the one we are looking for?" In some ways we wonder why John, Jesus' relative that "leaped" at the sound of Mary's voice while still in his mother's womb, who baptized Jesus would be asking this. If, however, you stop and think about what John is facing, he has upset Herod and is in prison, you begin to understand. John's 'giant' seems to be winning! John asks for, and is given, reassurance that Jesus is the "one we've been watching for."
So..... when we are in the midst of facing our 'giant' do we remember Emmanuel -- God with us? I have recently, this last week in fact, faced one of my "giants." Yes, I definitely felt God with me and the prayer support. Yes, now that this 'giant' has been faced a new one -- where is this leading -- comes. How are you answering "are you the one we are looking for?" My prayer, for you, is that you too are feeling God's presence with you, the prayer support and the encouragement.
