Today's Gospel reading is Luke 9:23. Jesus has been telling people about his upcoming death on the cross and being "raised from the dead." (v. 22) Then in 23 He says "if any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me." (New Living Translation) Do we believe this? Do we really believe verse 22 -- the tomb was EMPTY? As we face our "giants" can we take up the "our" cross and follow where God is leading?
I know. It takes a lot of belief to actually do it. It takes a lot of belief to "love the Lord with our whole heart, mind and strength." (Greatest commandment Matthew 22:37) The question(s) I'm asking, this morning are if we not only really believe these things but actually live our believe. I know. This is difficult to do - especially in today's 'me first' culture. I know. This is a "giant" we each face daily. I know. This is a cross we need to "take up" so we can follow Christ.
I ask you again -- who do you believe? What do you believe? The journey starts with ONE step. I encourage you to take the first step - believe in our Lord Jesus Christ. The tomb was empty. He IS risen!! Now take the first step, pick up the cross, face the giant and live what you believe.
