I would like us to think about this bush, however, this morning. Moses sees this bush "on fire" and goes to investigate. Think about this for a minute...... It is a "normal" day for Moses. He is taking the sheep out to the pasture. This particular pasture is "on the far side of the wilderness." So.... On a normal day, in at least a different place, if not a very remote place, Moses encounters God. Is that where you would expect to encounter God?
I know, I live in what some people think of as a very remote place. And, yes, a lot of people expect to encounter God in this beautiful part of God's creation. Most of the people here are visitors (some short term but some are 'returning' yearly) not those of us blessed to live here year round so it isn't necessarily a 'normal' day. It still leaves me wondering about peoples' encounters with God. Moses wasn't 'looking for' God - Moses saw a bush on fire and went to investigate. At the bush Moses encountered God!
When have YOU encountered God? Where have you encountered God? Have you been looking for, or ignoring, God? Has God been trying to get your attention? Are you seeking God - for direction, strength and/or peace?
Last spring, during Lent, we did a prayer challenge "Draw the Circle" by Mark Batterson. I've recently started doing the study, again (for the third time), and have appreciated encountering God again -- sometimes in the same way but sometimes in new ways. I would like to encourage you to take prayer to a new level. Seek God, in prayer and God's Word, in a new way. Look for your burning bush, listen for what God is saying and then DO it.
