The idea of celebrating Emmanuel, God WITH us, is also a good reminder while we are facing our "giants." It is helpful to be able to think about, prepare for and celebrate at any time of the year. Here, as members of the two churches, we are pretty busy (even busier than in December!) with the summer people here, VBS, bazaars, pancake breakfasts, summer people here, Bingo, and gardens keep us going in circles. It is good to take time to s-t-o-p and remember what Jesus' birth means to us. It is good to stop and think about "Epiphany" and the meaning of Jesus as our Messiah -- do we really believe the grave was empty?
So...... Yes, I wish you a Merry Christmas! I ask you stop and think about the already -- Jesus' birth - and the 'not yet' -- the second coming. I ask you to think about preparing for Christmas AND Epiphany. I ask you to think about celebrating Christmas all year long. I ask you to think about re-creating as you remember the real reason of/for CHRISTmas. In 5 months it will be colder, at least up here, and just as busy, at least for many of us, so think about these things now so you can celebrate the already and the 'not yet.'
