Then I would like to ask you about your thoughts on the "ends of the earth"? Our Scripture reading, this morning is in Acts chapter 1. Jesus is explaining to the Disciples, and us, about not knowing the timing of things. Jesus also tells the Disciples (and us!), however, to take what they have learned to "the ends of the earth." Which brings me to the question about what we think of when we think "end of the earth."
Some think of the "end times" -- which Jesus has just explained "only God knows" when the end times will be. I also know that some people think of different locations as the "end of the earth." My Dad used to give directions to a friend's ranch (in Texas) as "go to the end of the earth, turn around, come back a mile and it will be on the right." Some people think "no cell phone (or internet)" means the end of the earth -- which could be some of where I live!
The interesting point here is we are supposed to be "making Disciples" (Matthew 28:19 & 20) "to the ends of the earth." We have seen, even up here (and in Texas!!), how connected we can be - people knowing other people from all over the world. We can share where we have seen Jesus and felt God's Love. We can be making Disciples - teaching about God's Love and encouraging praise and worship! Is it going to be easy? No. Should we still do it? YES!
So....... Where do you see "the ends of the earth"? What is God asking you to do? Something to think about as warm weather finally starts to get here.
