Today we also "jump" 30 years in Jesus' life to celebrate his baptism and the start of his ministry. How do we bring 'baptism' and 'Epiphany' together? I think we bring it together with the idea that 'wise' people continue to 'seek Him' just like the Wise Men did over 2,000 years ago. I think we bring it together by thinking about what gifts we are bringing to Emmanuel -- God with us. I think we bring it together by remembering the vows we made, or were made for us, at our baptism. I think we bring it together by remembering our promise to support the ministry with "our prayers, our presence, our gifts and our service" (a prayer said by everyone in the UM Baptism Service).
So I ask you, this week, to be remembering and thinking about your baptism -- the vows you made or that were made for you. Think about Emmanuel -- God with us -- and the gifts brought to Him. Then think about what gift(s) you are bringing. Think about what gifts God is asking you to bring. Think about the ways, like last week, that you can "open mouth, praise God!"
