Our Scripture reading(s), today are still in 1 Samuel 17 - David facing the giant Goliath, and in Mark 3 where Jesus tells the Disciples, and the people listening to Him, "whoever does the will of God is my brother, and sister and mother." (verse 35) David has tried to do things the way Saul thinks, even putting on Saul's armor, but is better using the tools God has given him. He picks up "five smooth stones," puts them in his "shepherds's bag" and goes out to Goliath."(verse 40)
As we look at our "giants" I am using a wonderful book "Five Stones:Conquering Your Giants" by Shane Stanford and R. Brad Martin. They help us define what each of the "five stones" can be as we not only face our "giants" but also "do the will of God" just like David facing Goliath. Last week we were observing and listening. This week we are figuring out fact vs fiction and recognizing what tools God has given each of us. We also need to remember God has given us the tools to share - David took care of Goliath for the Hebrew people not just "for himself."
So....... What "giant" are you facing? Did you observe and listen last week? Can you separate the fact - Goliath was human just big - from the fiction - 'giants' always win? Do you remember God IS with you - like David pointing out God helped him with bears and lions? Do you see, and recognize, the tools God is giving you? Time to take the first step and "face the giant."
