There is also "listening" to understand - because of an accent we aren't used to, because of frustration the speaker is having, because we really want to do more than hear the speaker's voice. How often we say "I heard you talking, but not what you said" - I know I have said it regularly! There can also be times, in a busy schedule or a crowded room, when we really have to concentrate to "listen" for what a person is saying.
Last week I spoke about "time" away with God so I could be renewing, strengthening my relationship with God. I asked if we were "listening" because God IS still speaking. I've found I have had some difficulty "listening" this week - for two reasons. First off I don't have any quilting/sewing with me. Yes, I have my knitting but it is to easy for the mind to wander as I people watch with knitting. And, secondly, I haven't had my praise music. God often speaks to me, through praise music, with a phrase or song that exactly matches the Scripture, book(s) or study I am doing.
How do you listen? ARE you listening? Jesus would go off, by himself, to be with God but he would also be in worship (as was his custom - Luke 4:16). My prayer, for you, is your ARE spending time with God daily AND you are "listening" for, and to, God.
