Meanwhile the changes we have been going through have been from interesting to challenging depending on your perspective or attitude. We've talked about 'facing our giants,' building a stronger relationship with God and making other changes. "Change" makes us nervous and, sometimes, the biggest 'giant' we face is fear. IF we are remembering Emmanuel -- God with us -- we can face this 'giant' (fear and changes) with a calm attitude.
Our Scripture reading , this morning, is in Genesis 37 & 50. We know the story -- Joseph, with a special coat from his father (Jacob/Israel), is sold into slavery by his brothers. Then in chapter 50 he points out to the same brothers who did what they meant "for evil" God turned "to good." (50:20). Joseph had definitely faced "challenges," hard times and changes. Times had been very difficult. Joseph had even, though I doubt he would have admitted it, been a little nervous (if not scared) at different times through out.
Looking back, however, Joseph could see how God had been, and still was, WITH him -- Emmanuel God with us. As I look back, and I bet for ya'll too, I CAN see where God has been with me in the past AND how God IS with me now. Yes, change (and challenge) is difficult and scary -- especially as we face our 'giants' but we need to remember Emmanuel -- God IS with us.
I encourage you, as you face your 'giants,' as you encounter change (even if it is 'just' the weather) feel God's presence with you. KNOW Emmanuel! KNOW the "peace that passes understanding" and talk to God about everything.
