This morning's Gospel reading is John 20 -- Mary going to the tomb, finding it empty, getting help but staying, crying and finding Jesus. I find it interesting for the two disciples to race each other to the tomb and one "believes" but they both leave. I have a feeling Mary, who has come back to the tomb with them, is too upset to leave. She is crying, talks to the two angels but (like Pilot asking about 'truth') doesn't stop to listen to them. She turns around and speaks to the person she thinks is the gardener.
Can you imagine it? Can you see it? Someone so upset they are crying, asking questions but not really listening to the answers? Jesus asks her why she is crying, she replies she will "take care of the body" if the gardener will tell her "where he took it." Can you see the LOVE in Jesus eyes? Can you hear it in His voice? He call her by name! We are told, in several places including earlier in John where Jesus points out he knows His sheep by name, that God not only has us in His hand, by the hand (from my friend Isaiah), has known us since we "before we were formed in our mother's womb", but also BY NAME. Wow! The LOVE God has for us is so awesome! For God "so loved the world" He gave His Son." (John 3:16)
So my question for you is what is your response? Mary answers immediately, and I think joyously, "Rabbi" or "Teacher" depending on the translation. Is that how you think of Jesus? Are you listening? What is your answer? He IS risen!!
