There are several reasons I want you to be thinking about praising God but there is also a special reason for my sister, Molly, and I. First off we need to praise God for God's beautiful creation -- fall colors are going wild all around us. It looks like God spilled the paint box - it is so beautiful! Then we need to praise God for God's awesome creation. I've just spent a wonderful several days driving through AZ, New Mexico, Texas and back north to MN. It looks very different from northern Minnesota but SO beautiful!! AND we stopped at Acoma pueblo in New Mexico so I also got "history" on this trip!
The special "PRAISE God" happened on the very first day of our trip while we were still driving "out" of AZ. We came VERY close to being a part of about an eight car pile up. A red pick up truck insisted on passing Molly. You guessed it -- there were cars coming at us. We were on a narrow two lane road with no shoulders -- only a ditch. Molly is heading for the ditch on "our side," the car heading in the other direction (into the red truck) is heading toward our side of the road, the red truck takes the ditch on the other side of the road. Three cars, behind the 'first car,' heading in the opposite direction and at least 4 cars behind us -- all traveling at 70 mph (the speed on this road). My LOUD prayer of "God BLESS US ALL" was answered as we all missed each other by inches.
This really got me thinking about prayer and praise. We pray for travelors, every week, during worship. We need to keep doing that but we also need to be very specific in our prayers. And we especially need to be praising God -- individually and daily AND in worship with the community. Psalms reminds us to worship AND to praise God. How are YOU doing that? When are you doing that?
I can definitely tell you we felt God's presence with us as it was happening and, later when reaction set in. I can tell you we were praising God for it, and continue to do so, in loud voices. I encourage you to be praising God also!
