The Scripture reading, this morning, is the Gospel of John: "In the beginning was the Word...." and "The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone." (John 1:4 NLT) The love story of God. The reminder of the Trinity - Jesus, the Word, was with God in the beginning and is with us now -- Emmanuel. The Love story God continues to write for, and in, each of us even as we face the challenges (and giants?) in our lives.
The Scripture reading for tonight (Christmas Eve) is Luke 2 - the story of the birth with no "room in the inn." Or, depending on the scholar, no "room in the guest room." Remember Joseph is from Bethlehem! (I must admit I kind of like the idea of giving Mary some privacy to give birth and be with her baby!) Here is a family that has unexpected things happening -- a baby coming, guests arriving, no place to "live" and more guests due soon.
The question I'm thinking of today, however, is do we have room? Have we responded to the Love God is showing by giving Jesus room in our lives let alone IN our hearts? When our schedules get out of control is the first thing to "go" the time we were spending with God in God's Word? When we are facing said challenges (giants) are we feeling God's Loving presence -- Emmanuel?
One of the stories I read, preparing for Advent, was about a person that loved to say Merry Christmas to people. I can identify with that!! I love reminding people to keep "Christ in Christmas"!! One of the people, responding to this person, answered "May Christ be born in you." What an interesting idea!! Christ, Emmanuel, in each of us especially as we celebrate HIS birthday! That is my prayer for each of you, also, may Christ be born in you as we celebrate God's love in the birthday of God's son!
