We are finishing our reading of 1 Samuel 17, the story of David facing Goliath, and talking about how we face our own "giants." Today we are also in Mark 5 where a woman, who has been ill for 12 years, is facing several giants of her own. David, and the woman in Mark, both are believing God is with them. Both are believing "with God" they can win over the "giant." Both are also moving (running? David is running but the woman, in such a large crowd, is probably moving at the crowds pace.) toward the 'giant(s)'.
We've spoken of "facing our giants" before and for the last several weeks. Last week we spoke of the 'training' needed. This week it is time to move forward. It is time to actually 'face' the giant. It is time to take the steps -- running, walking or 'at the crowds pace,'
I would like us to think about attitude as we are taking the steps. What is our attitude? Is it the "okay I'll do it" of the teenager being asked to do something? Is it the "I CAN do this" of David? Is it the "I WILL do this" of the woman in Mark? Are we the Titanic and this is our "last step"? Or..... Are we the Mayflower and we are "charting a new course"?
Both David, and the woman in Mark, believed God was with them. The "God of Angel Armies" (an awesome song by Chris Tomlin) was with them but the SAME GOD (also some pretty awesome praise songs) is also with us! Do we really believe that!? Can we take those first steps? Something to think about as we celebrate the steps to freedom our ancestors took, here in the US, over 200 years ago. Something to think about as we TAKE those steps!!
