When we are in storms, from nature or man made or individual storms, as we face our 'giants' it is easy to miss out on the rest we need. We tell ourselves we will get 'back to it' after this crisis has passed. We will return to our 'normal' schedule even if it is a new normal. The problem is once we are out of the habit of the time with God -- in worship and personal -- it is very hard to get back to it. The first several times we miss the time, worship or personal, we have a very good reason. By the third, or fourth time, it is a new habit.
I can remember, as I'm sure many of you can, when we couldn't do a lot of things on Sunday (Sabbath for many Christians) because of the "laws." Now we can do just about anything on Sunday (or anyone else's Sabbath day) including shopping. I'm not questioning this because how we spend our Sabbath should be our own choice for how we honor God, strengthen our relationship with God AND praise God in worship.
What we should be thinking about, and honoring, is Genesis 2:2 & 3, our Scripture for this morning, about God resting on the 7th day. God had been busy creating on the other 6 so God stopped and rested on the 7th. We need to think about this because we have been busy also. Are you getting a "Sabbath rest"? Are you coming together, with other believers, to celebrate God in worship and praise? Are you growing in your relationship with God, strengthening it, with time in God's Word (daily?!)? Something to think about as we continue the prayers for those affected by the major storms and by personal storms.
