Changes is what is happening in our Gospel reading this morning - Matthew 4:1--16. We usually focus on the temptations Christ faces - the way both He, and the devil, use Scripture to make their point - and how Christ wins against the temptations. There is also change here though. Jesus has just been baptized by John, received the Holy Spirit and heard God say "this is my beloved son." Now the change as he goes into the "wilderness" to spend 40 days and be tempted - which gives us the discussions I spoke of. In verse 12, though, there is more change. Jesus hears John has been arrested and moves to Capernaum to begin his ministry "to fulfill what is said through the prophet Isaiah." (verse 14 NIV) Verse 17 has Jesus starting to preach "repent" - to begin his ministry - more changes happening.
Changes happening! From temptation to ministry, from gifts to the Christ child (Epiphany) to our gifts to God and even, for us, changes in location(s) as we travel. How are we doing ministry? How are we sharing God's love? What gift(s) are we bringing to God? Are we using the gifts God has given us? Things to be thinking about as we are (I'm praying!) staying warm and safe.
