Did you know that hymn comes from Psalm 46? I found out, in doing the research for today, that he would frequently sing Psalm 46, with his associate, when feeling stressed. He probably felt a LOT of stress as he faced his 'giant' and the changes caused by doing so! Where do we go when we are feeling stressed?
I like the way Eugene Peterson puts it in The Message. Verse 1 reads "God is a safe place to hide, ready to help when we need him." As we face our 'giants,' step out in faith, follow where God is leading - knowing the changes all this causes -- AND the changes of weather, life, seasons where do we 'hide'? Do we stop and take time to BE with God? I'm praying you ARE!
Time to STOP, BE with God and feel God's presence WITH you! I, again, like Peterson's phrasing for verse 10. "Step out of traffic! Take a long, loving look at me, your High God, above politics, above everything."
My prayer, this week, is that we are 'stepping out of traffic' to spend time with God -- our strength.
